Computer Technician

Job Description:

(40%) On-site and remote desktop and laptop computer and related items (Scanners/printers) support including such items as troubleshooting, anti-virus, anti-spam, and clean-up and maintenance of the computers. This includes both installation/removal of software as well as hardware repairs. Support and train staff in software and peripheral usage.

(15%) Network support for multiple programs on the State ODJFS network including tying printers and copiers into various networks, and software and program support and troubleshooting, including password updates and technical support. This includes working with high security networks for the State OIT and OIS departments and acting as a liaison to state remote technical staff. Coordinate and work cooperatively with Wayne County IT Director to ensure compatibility and connectability with County IT systems.

(15%) Support and maintain agency VoIP phone systems including on-site user training and voice mail programming.

(15%) Technology inventory and disposal process, including making sure various hard drives and information storage devices are clean and data removed before disposal.

(10%) Website and SharePoint maintenance of existing and future sites.

(5%) Attending meetings and trainings outside the agency and other duties as assigned.

The Incumbent in this position, in order to carry out the job duties, enters data into, and retrieves data from the statewide computerized systems. The incumbent must also be able to lift, bend, crawl and carry equipment up to 50lbs using proper safety techniques to avoid injury.

Normal working hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Starting Salary is $18.66/hour.

Minimum Acceptable Characteristics:

Knowledge of ODJFS computer systems, networks, software, equipment, policies and procedures related to the operation and maintenance of the WCDJFS technical systems. Knowledge of computer hardware and peripherals including installation, maintenance, warranties and replacement recommendations.

Knowledge of secured network protocols, password safety and maintenance, and working with classified information routinely. Knowledge of network terminology and basic network systems infrastructure.  Functional knowledge of State ODJFS IT practices or ability to rapidly learn. 

Knowledge of VoIP phone systems, multiline phone systems, voice mail box setup and programming.

Ability to maintain accurate and up to date inventory control over all State and Agency owned equipment and licenses. Ability to follow Agency guidelines for the disposal of technology in both a secure and environmentally appropriate manner.

Working with the Business Administrator and Work Programs Administrator to create and maintain Agency websites, including content development and production (written, video, calendars, etc.).
