James David Brown
James David Brown, age 64, resident of Coweta, OK passed away on Sunday evening, June 23, 2024, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK with his family at his side. He was born on August 6, 1959, in Midland, TX to Emmett Lee and Peggy JoAnn (Word) Brown. James's journey through life was marked by dedication, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community.
James grew up in Lawton, OK, where he graduated from Lawton Eisenhower High School in 1978. His passion for serving others led him to the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service, where he earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science in 1985. He became a licensed funeral director and embalmer in the State of Oklahoma, a profession that allowed him to offer comfort and care to many during their times of greatest need.
In 1985, James began his career in the funeral industry at Arnold Moore Funeral Service in Bartlesville, OK, and later at Grace Memorial Chapel in Ponca City, OK. His dedication to his work was evident, and in July of 1993, he and his beloved wife, Judy, took a significant step by purchasing Wright Funeral Home in Coweta. They later renamed it Brown Funeral Home & Cremations, where he served the families of Coweta with distinction for over 30 years.
James's life was filled with love and joy, especially after marrying the love of his life, Judy Louise Giles, on October 18, 1980, in Lawton, OK. Together, they built a life full of adventure and happiness. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and simply being in nature. In addition to his love for the outdoors, James also enjoyed watching NASCAR. However, nothing compared to the time he spent with his family, particularly his cherished grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Brown of the home in Coweta, OK; his daughter, Courtney Johnson of Coweta, OK; his son, Logan Brown and wife Maranda of Coweta, OK; four grandchildren, Katelynn Johnson, Nathan Johnson, Lakyn Brown, and Lincoln Brown; his sister, JoAnn Billings of Lawton, OK; his brother, Jerry Brown and wife Anita of Lawton, OK; his sister-in-law, Nona Brown of Duncan, OK; and his nieces and nephews, Chad Tate, Steven Tate, Brandon Brown, Lonnie Billings, Jr., Justin Brown, Jeremiah Brown, and Amanda Brown; his good friends, Randy and Cara Sien; along with numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett Lee and Peggy JoAnn Brown; his brother, Johnny Brown; and his brother-in-law, Lonnie Billings, Sr.
Beyond his family, James was deeply involved in his community. He was a past president of the Coweta Chamber of Commerce and a member of The Park Church of Christ in Tulsa, OK. His leadership and service left an indelible mark on the community he loved so dearly.
James's legacy of kindness, generosity, and love will continue to inspire all who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on in the hearts of his loved ones and the community he served so faithfully.
Visitation for James will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Friday, June 28, 2024, at Brown Funeral Home in Coweta, OK with the family present to receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Services celebrating his life will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Coweta, OK. James will be laid to rest at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK.
