Developer could offer new vision for apartments

Hilliard Northwest News

Vision Development, which previously sought to build 281 apartments north of Davidson Road near Interstate 270, is expected to seek reconsideration from the Planning and Zoning Commission today, June 11.

Commission members last November issued a negative recommendation to Hilliard City Council concerning the company's rezoning application.

The application was on the commission's April and May agendas for reconsideration and was postponed each time.

"We have every intention of being there on Thursday," Connie Klema, an attorney representing Vision Development, said Monday, June 8.

The Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. at the Hilliard Municipal Building, 3800 Municipal Way.

Klema declined to provide any details but she said the plan would be different than the version commission members opposed 6-1 in November.

Rather than attempting to persuade City Council to overturn the negative recommendation, Vision Development officials opted to present a new plan to the commission, Klema said.

"We will be showing the changes (June 11)," Klema said.

The commission's rejection of the rezoning application in November came eight months after it was first introduced.

The apartment development, tentatively called the Pointe, began as a 381-unit proposal.

Vision Development met with Davidson Run homeowners several times last year before deciding instead on 281 apartments.

Klema would not say June 8 if the new proposal further reduced the number of apartments.

The 16 acres on the rezoning application are part of almost 48 acres owned by Wolpert Enterprises. The remainder of the parcel would retain its commercial-development zoning, according to Klema.

As part of the development, Trueman Boulevard would be extended north to meet Edwards Farm Drive in Columbus.

Eight other applications are scheduled to be heard June 11 and include:

* Rock City Church, 3781 Park Mill Run Drive, seeking an amended zoning plan and sign variance.

* Tarlton Meadows on Elliott Road seeking a development plan for 283 residences on 190 acres, including 47 acres of green space.

* A Jeannette Road property owner seeking to build a two-unit residence.

* A Dublin Road property owner seeking a lot split.

* Cyclical Nature Bicycles, 39887 Main St., seeking a permit for a 320-square-foot storage building with bike racks.
