District sees fundig as bigger issue than growth

Those who enjoy the par-69 course should be able to tee it up for the rest of the 2014 season at Minerva Lake Golf Club.

That’s the word from Jeff Groezinger, whose family owns the 100-plus acres immediately east of the village of Minerva Park.

I wrote earlier this spring about Fischer Homes’ interest in building more than 300 homes on the golf course.

I started tracking the story again a couple of days ago when an email from a reader said the scuttlebutt around the golf club suggested the housing development deal was off.

Groezinger and I traded voicemails today. He says negotiations remain active.

“It’s always been uncertain as to when all of this would come together,” Groezinger wrote. “Those conversations between Fischer and the village are ongoing.”

As to the golf course: “We’ve been told (Fischer) won’t be do anything before the end of the (golf) season,” Groezinger said. “We don’t have anything written in stone.”

The next few weeks, he said, are critical as the village tries to hammer out a final zoning deal in anticipation of annexing the course into Minerva Park.

“Those conversations will be telling,” Groezinger said, about "exactly what’s going to happen and how.”
