WFMY-Greensboro, TEGNA’s CBS affiliate in the Greensboro – High Point – Winston-Salem market, seeks a skilled and motivated leader capable of inspiring continuing change and growth.  With great history and current momentum, WFMY News 2 is on the front lines of new media change, development and risk.  Our news director will pick up the pace on this path to further on-air, digital and social growth.  As important, demonstrated abilities to unite, instruct and challenge in a team atmosphere that has no room for excess ego.  We grow station managers, news directors, producers, anchors, MMJs, directors, photographers for our station and others in our company.  Fit matters here.  And so does community in North
Carolina’s Piedmont Triad.  It is assumed our News Director will possess high character, journalistic integrity, expertise in digital/social media with relevant experience, judgment and drive leading us to success.  She/he will report to the President & General Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Strategically lead and manage News  Department.
  • Oversee news content, staff and daily  execution.
  • Partner with digital/social content manager.
  • Work closely with the news team to produce high quality, relevant, local content that sets the station apart from competitors as a way to grow audience.
  • Collaborate daily with the team on content for web site, social media, mobile, and apps. 
  • Foster an environment of creativity, innovation, teamwork and high ethical standards.
  • Lead a culture that owns breaking news and weather coverage on all multi-media platforms.
  • Inspire and coach superior storytelling.
  • Think and lead strategically, be a strong  communicator, teacher, collaborator, community-minded, with a consistent passion
  • to serve audiences and win multi-platform news.
  • Interact daily with all news and station managers in a mutual effort to achieve station goals, extending the WFMY News 2 brand.

Qualifications

  • Broadcast journalism bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Proven track record of news leadership experience.
  • Clear, successful innovation, leadership, communication, and ability to grow people and product.
  • Minimum five years of experience in broadcast news or related field, preferably as news manager.
  • Solid journalistic judgment and a news philosophy that emphasizes accurate, fair and unique local content, along with community engagement.  
  • Leader of commitment to social media and digital platforms.
  • Strong ethical standards and integrity.
  • Exceptional organizational skills suited for a fast-paced environment.
