Salary: Commensurate with experience SIT/$19.40 -$22.34 hourly plus full-time benefits RS/$22.08-$28.44 hourly plus full-time benefits
Start Date: Immediate Opening
Working Hours: Full Time; 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday - Evenings, weekends, & holidays may be required.   Based on Agency need & emergent issues.

  • Sanitarian in Training (SIT) certification or Registered Sanitarian (RS) certification with the Ohio Department of Health under Chapter 4736 of the Ohio Revised Code.
  • Bachelors of Science: Environmental Health, Biology (Bacteriology), Chemistry, Microbiology or Epidemiology.
  • Maintains a Pest Control Operators License
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license, current certificate of vehicle insurance, and access to reliable transportation to all assigned work locations.
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS)/Incident Command System (ICS) 100.b, IS-120, and IS-700.a certification within one month of employment.

Promotes and supports population health by providing a variety of clerical, administrative and technical support services such as providing specialized, technical, program, or Agency specific information to internal and external customers; answering phones; scheduling appointments; interviewing internal and external customers to establish services needed; asks, receives, and accounts for payments; establishing and maintaining data files; and drafting and editing documents such as correspondence and inspection reports.

Under general supervision and/or as part of the Environmental Health team, performs the following functions within the framework of the Erie County Health Department and the Erie County Community Health Center’s provision of the core functions and essential services of public health:

  • Conducts water samples from natural waters of the state using assigned protocol and chain of custody procedures.
  • Receives training in conducting inspections and investigations of environmental health programs.
  • Performs laboratory analysis of collected samples.
  • Ability to maintain records and report sample data.
  • Promotes good environmental health and sanitation practices to the general public, business groups, schools and others.
  • Works with public officials and volunteer agencies to promote improvements in environmental health programs.
