Program Details:
Cybersecurity conversations in advisory firms often rely on assumptions rather than evidence. This session examines common security blind spots among Registered Investment Advisors, including limited written policies, shadow IT, overreliance on cloud providers, and default SaaS settings.
Framed around the question, “Are you really secure?” the presentation contrasts how firms assess cybersecurity with how regulators and attackers evaluate risk. Attendees will explore the core pillars of cybersecurity, common misconceptions, and how everyday technology decisions affect firmwide risk. The session also provides high-level insight into upcoming SEC Regulation S-P changes and why they matter for advisory firms.
About the Speaker:
Mark Linton is a business technology specialist with professional experience dating back to 2009. After serving in the United States Navy from 2005–2009, he attended The Ohio State University and Empire State College, earning a bachelor’s degree in Business and Economics with a focus in Information Systems. He later completed a Master of Information Strategy, Systems, and Technology at Muskingum University and has earned multiple technology certifications over the past decade.
Mark spent five years in the banking industry as an infrastructure support specialist, where he managed primary and disaster recovery storage systems for a $7 billion organization. He worked closely with internal and external auditors to ensure systems met banking and SEC compliance requirements.
In 2018, Mark led FinGarde’s strategic shift to focus exclusively on supporting Registered Investment Advisors, helping firms address their unique technology and compliance needs.
