Now you’re ready for the next step in your career in an elevated role through an incredible opportunity. WCNC Charlotte is looking for a Weekend Senior Producer. This is your chance to be a part of and help lead a great team of producers. The winning candidate will have a winning attitude, solid news judgement, and an eye for doing things differently. We’re looking for someone who can not only put together an incredible newscast, but also help motivate a fully engaged team and ensure the high-quality standards of the WCNC Charlotte brand every day. The ideal candidate should be confident in executing quick decisions with urgency and impact to achieve the most dynamic newscast possible.

Responsibilities:

  • Grasp the content that matters to our communities and know how to bring timely coverage and conversation to our shows every day.
  • Produce highly engaging newscasts that ensure the brand promise and strategies are met.
  • Hold a strong standard for the entire newscast and its content that aligns with audience research and needs.
  • Identify daily opportunities to have our news be noticed and reach new audiences.
  • Be a leader in the creation of unique, shareable content.
  • Skillfully use social media and digital tools to research, discover and distribute content.
  • Work with the digital desk to identify and assign content appropriately for each platform.
  • Encourage innovation, risk-taking and powerful storytelling in crafting great newscasts.
  • Inspire enterprise stories and coordinate special coverage with news leadership team.
  • Challenge the norm.
  • Help create a multi-platform experience.
  • Work collaboratively with other managers and perform tasks as required by News Director.

 

Daily breakdown:

Saturday/Sunday –

  • Produce 11
  • Assist and Oversee the 6
  • Produce both if 2nd producer is PTO
  • Lead Friday pre-planning for weekends
  • Lead weekend editorial process including the 3p meeting
  • Handle approving scripts/facilitating stories for reporters
  • Help coordinate breaking news (can consult manager on call for help/approval)
  • Check in with web team to make sure digital content/platform is being updated
  • Coordinate with manager on call if there are any sick calls
  • Leave handoff notes


Weekday shifts –

  • Handle producing off-anchor segments
  • Handle producing anchor packages (if content deems so)
  • Handle bold open
  • Handle producing breaking news coverage/cutins (with help of dayside EP)
  • Assist Spencer with special projects (i.e. Olympics/Elections) when needed
  • Field produce anchors in the field
  • Produce shows when needed

Experience:

Requirements:

 

  • At least 5 years producing experience in a medium to large market and/or prior EP experience in small to medium market
  • Strong understanding of the tenets of professional journalism
  • Knowledge of ENPS, photojournalism, editing, and content management systems a plus
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time-sensitive deadlines.
  • BA/BS in journalism, communications or related a plus
