WCNC-TV, the TEGNA-owned NBC affiliate in Charlotte, NC, is looking for a Special Projects Producer who is the ultimate multi-tasker. The Special Projects Producer works closely with newsroom and marketing managers in coordinating and executing daily news assignments and special events. This person will be the overall point person for big news events and station initiatives. They will be planning and producing long format projects, researching, writing scripts, and shooting and editing video pieces as well. The job also includes fill-in show producing, backing up the Assignment Desk when needed and supporting news managers with employee schedules, expense reports and managing timecards.
Responsibilities:
- Produces newscasts, special reports, and segments for newscasts and digital content for broadcast across all platforms
- Writes breaking news and feature stories
- Shoots and edits video
- Must be a self-starter, organized, and extremely detail-oriented.
- Must be comfortable in a control room situation and have the ability to write in a variety of news platforms, programs, and formats. This includes writing for digital, newscasts, and breaking news, often on a deadline.
- Research and execute special events and coverage
- Timecard and scheduling management
- Research and reporting/interviewing skills
- Ability and willingness to respond to breaking news and severe weather events alongside other news employees.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
- Minimum two years experience in news operations and production.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Proficiency with computers, news writing and editing programs, Zoom, or similar, office equipment
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Expected to be able to field produce live events, including large breaking news coverages or planned live events. Planning includes arranging venues, staff credentials, and on-site arrangements.
- Flexible shifts, holidays, and weekend assignments as needed.
