Legislative Efforts Continue in Rhode Island

Read the Proposed Bill

UPDATE: Unfortunately, our bill did not pass this session after it was caught in a significant bill backlog at the end of the session and couldn't pass in time. We may look to continue these efforts in 2025. A healthy membership in Rhode Island will help us have a stronger presence in the capital during these sessions.

The legislative team at the SSA is continuing to work on eliminating the newspaper ad requirements in the state of Rhode Island. Last year we were able to reduce the ad requirements from three times to once, shorten the demand period, and allow online sales. We are still trying to eliminate that one notice by publication requirement and make it so that an owner can comply with advertising requirements by either advertising online or running an ad in the newspaper. You can read a copy of the proposed House Bill below.

We are hoping our elected officials are comfortable building on incremental change after last year's legislative success.

If you are an operator in Rhode Island and would be willing to testify at House or Senate hearings, please let us know.
