NYSPMA Attends APMA Membership Summit

NYSPMA’s Membership Director, Lori Sales Cutler traveled to Baltimore for APMA's Membership Summit and Student Recruitment Stakeholders Meeting. During the Membership Summit, they reviewed current membership data and trends, the member experience (both at the state and national level), and discussed component efforts. They explored impediments to recruiting, including disparities in the joining process; listed data they need to better understand our audience; and examined segmentation of members. Ultimately, they came to the conclusion that a national membership recruitment campaign, overseen by a working group of APMA’s Membership Committee and other volunteers, would be a prudent and proactive next step. They will follow up soon with summit attendees and all components to provide slides and a final report from the meeting. APMA will develop a draft marketing plan for the working group to review, and they will continue to communicate with all of you on a regular basis as they work toward this common goal.

The Student Recruitment Stakeholders Meeting brought together representatives from the APMA and its components, the colleges of podiatric medicine, the American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine (AACPM), the American Society of Podiatric Surgeons, and the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. The stakeholders reviewed current efforts, and our applicant pool and goals, discussed obstacles and new ideas, as well as roles and responsibilities. AACPM and APMA will continue to partner on this effort, and AACPM will be reporting to all meeting participants and stakeholders on outcomes and next steps.
