Federal Appropriations and Older Americans Act (OAA) Updates

On September 2, President Trump signed a continuing resolution (CR) extending federal government funding through December 11, 2026, generally maintaining funding at FY 2026 levels. The CR also extends authorizations for important health, veterans, and transportation programs and temporarily blocks implementation of an Office of Management and Budget rule that would make significant changes to federal grantmaking.

With only four months remaining in the 119th Congress, there is a limited window to advance Older Americans Act (OAA) reauthorization. Following the Senate’s passage of S. 2120 in July, we continue to urge the House to take action before the end of the year.

For Ohio’s aging network, OAA reauthorization is particularly important because federal OAA funding supports programs and services that help older Ohioans remain healthy, independent, and connected in their communities. Reauthorization could move during the lame-duck session following the November elections or potentially be included in a December appropriations package. With Congress also facing a December deadline for FY 2027 appropriations, advancing OAA reauthorization will be a challenge.
