Kentucky Passes HME Licensure - Effective September 30, 2012
The State of Kentucky, with the support of the Kentucky Medical Equipment Suppliers Association (KMESA), passed licensure law for home medical equipment providers earlier this year. This law requires "all home medical equipment providers that sell/distribute homemedical equipment products to patients in Kentucky obtain a license from the Kentucky Board".
The deadline to obtain the Kentucky license is 9/30/2012. According to KMESA, the cost is $200 per location per year and all HME/DME providers are required to be licensed with one exception; if the HME business is a pharmacy/HME company operating in the same building, under the same tax ID, business license and provider numbers.
Detailed information can be obtained on the Board's website at www.pharmacy.ky.gov. The information is posted on the homepage - go to the second item under "Important Updates" and includes a copy of the two-page Application form for a Home Medical Equipment Provider.
