SCOTUS Says Presidents Have ‘Absolute’ Immunity for Clearly Official Acts

Yet, they have no immunity for unofficial acts

Today, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) says presidents have “absolute” immunity for clearly official acts, but no immunity for unofficial acts.

The high court’s 6-3 ruling along ideological lines sends the case back to the lower court to determine what acts alleged in former President Donald Trump’s indictment on charges of trying to subvert the 2020 election are official or unofficial.

The partisan ruling likely adds significant time and further appeals to the pending trial of the former president’s federal case in D.C.
