Reflections from the President

During this continued period of increased stress, it is important to acknowledge that trauma affects people differently. The events of the last 18 months have indeed been traumatic and have permanently changed each our lives in some way. Be kind to yourself and to others. As we near the last few weeks of summer, I hope that each of you have taken the time to reflect on how you’ve adapted to these challenges and engage in some much-needed self-care to get through the weeks and months ahead

As an organization, we usually use this time to identify priorities and develop action steps to be taken over the next year to achieve our collective goals. Some of the new and ongoing SAVIR projects include a webinar series, a career paths project, a journal club, works in progress and student networking opportunities, and injury and violence policy statements. This work is primarily led by six SAVIR committees: Advocacy and Policy, Communications, Council of Centers, Membership, Student and Early Career Professionals, and Training and Infrastructure as well as our Anti-racism Interest Group. These groups are vital to the success of the organization. Moreover, these groups provide members an opportunity to work with colleagues from across the United States and beyond to effect change in the injury and violence landscape.  Our success as an organization depends on an active, responsive, diverse and expanding membership.  I encourage you to be an active member and help us grow; all are welcome. Please take some time to review our committees’ charges and join us…and bring a friend!

Stay safe –
