SAVIR Statement on Antiracism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The Society for Advancement of Violence and Injury Research (SAVIR) is committed to antiracism, diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice within our scientific community and society at large. We strive to build a community of injury and violence prevention scientists, practitioners, and advocates who encourage and celebrate diverse voices and promote authentic engagement, equitable research and empowered participation. We denounce racism, sexism, ableism, other isms, intolerance, discrimination, white supremacy, and all forms of oppression and violence. We are committed to achieving just social, political, and cultural systems where all people feel safe, invited, accepted, and respected, regardless of their background, identity, or affiliation.

Our core values pertaining to the practice of anti-racist and anti-discriminatory science and personal conduct are reflected in two living documents titled, “Conference Presenter Guidelines to Address Health Inequity and Racism” and the “Code of Conduct: For Members & Conference Attendees.” These living documents will be revisited and potentially revised each year to ensure they reflect the best understanding of racism, discrimination, and related issues.
