Understanding the Purpose and Function of PROGRAM Risk Assessments in Compliance Management Programs

This session, presented by the Affiliate Third Party Payment Processors Association (TPPPA), will distinguish Customer Risk Assessment (Customer Due Diligence) from Program Risk Assessment (Program Due Diligence). Regulatory guidance related to program risk assessment will be reviewed, along with the different types of internal controls—including policies, procedures, agreements, and training—with special emphasis on fraud risk management controls.

The session will highlight the ongoing relationship between risk assessment and internal controls, and the risks of modifying controls without reassessing and documenting resulting risks. Strategies for maintaining the integrity of risk assessments and internal controls will be discussed, including the importance of assigning oversight of program risk assessment to the Board of Directors or their designated function.
