The Nacha Operating Rules & Guidelines is an annual publication* produced by Nacha. Nacha governs the ACH Network, the payment system that drives Direct Deposits and Direct Payments.

The Nacha Operating Rules (Rules) provide users with the legal framework for the ACH Network, while the Nacha Operating Guidelines (Guidelines) provide guidance on implementing the Rules. The Rules and the Guidelines serve as the definitive sources of information governing the exchange and settlement of electronic funds transfers through the ACH Network.

*Nacha has increased the cost of the hard copy Rule Book for 2027. It will no longer contain a Subscription Code for the Nacha Operating Rules Online. This will be sold separately; more information to come once received from Nacha.
