Jim Shamel - 1990

Hall of Fame

Jim Shamel has coached baseball at Coshocton High School for 17 years. Coach Shamel's teams were 306-203 with one state championship (1978) and two Cardinal Conference titles (1970 and 1977). His teams have won five sectional championships, two district championships, and one regional title.

Jim is a Gnadenhutten High School graduate (1952) and a Muskingum College graduate (1956). He began his teaching and coaching career at Baltic High School. After a period of time in the armed service he continued to teach and coach at Rushville High School. In 1960 Jim was named the head basketball coach at Newcomerstown and in 1963 guided the Trojan baseball team. In 1964 Jim Shamel joined the Coshocton High School system. He was named the head baseball coach in 1968. Jim retired from teaching and coaching in 1985.

Jim Shamel, and his wife Charlene have been married 32 years. The Shamels have three frwon children, Shelley L. Pierce of Coschcton, Mrs. Laura J. Reiss of Zanesville and James E. Shamel of the U.S. Navy. The have one grandchild, Jessica Jo.
