The Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) in the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine at Ohio University (OU-HCOM) invites applications from individuals at the rank of associate professor or full professor for the position of Department Chair.

Ohio University is located in Athens, OH, a historic college town with a modest cost of living in southeastern Ohio in the foothills of the Appalachian mountain range. The Heritage College is experiencing a time of tremendous growth with the recent opening of new academic campuses in Dublin, Ohio, in affiliation with OhioHealth, and Warrensville Heights, Ohio, in affiliation with the Cleveland Clinic.

The Department of OMM has faculty on all three OU-HCOM campuses. The Chair will be responsible for OMM learning and faculty on all three campuses. The OMM Department integrates the principles and practice of osteopathic medicine throughout the continuum of medical education at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, from undergraduate classes and clinical rotations, through our residency programs, and on through continuing medical education for certified physicians. It is the preference that the Chair of the Department will be located on the Athens campus.

We are committed to the health care needs of the people of Ohio, and through research we strive to contribute to the biological, behavioral and clinical science knowledge base that is the foundation of osteopathic medical education and practice.

The successful candidate will hold a tenured faculty position in the Department of OMM. Candidates for the position of Department Chair within OU-HCOM will be evaluated by the relevant department's Promotion and Tenure Committee. The purpose of the evaluation is to determine, before an invitation is issued for a campus interview, if a candidate has met the specific department's requirements for tenure and rank as either an associate or full professor.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Per the needs of the Department and the interests of the successful candidate, commitment will include:

Academic commitment (60% or negotiated): Including, but not limited to offering lecture, lead labs, facilitate case-based learning sessions, mentor students, conduct research, and participate in service.

Chair responsibilities (20%): Governance of the Department of OMM, including but not limited to:
-Set the direction for the Department of OMM
-Supervise, advise, and support faculty and staff
-Facilitate medical student discussion groups
-Offer lectures to medical students in the candidate's fields of interest
-Serve on Department, College, and University committees
-Periodic travel to distance campuses for oversight

Other activities (20%): The remaining portion of this position will be negotiated with the College and may include additional responsibilities in the areas of teaching, research, and clinical practice.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
The successful candidate must be a licensed Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.), or equivalent. Preference given to candidates holding certification in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine/Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (C-NMM/OMM) or equivalent. Must have excellent interpersonal and management skills; a commitment to inclusive and collaborative leadership; a demonstrated record of clinical excellence, focused on OMM practice, experience in supervision of staff and mentoring of faculty; preference given to candidates with experience in preclinical medical teaching and curricular innovation; Candidates must articulate a compelling vision for how the Department of OMM occupies a core role in medical education and research.
