New for 2015 - Lay School of Theology expanded to 2 campuses
From Bishop Suzanne Dillahunt's December 12, 2014 note to the synod:
“Beginning February 21st we will have two sites for all interested lay people to participate in this ministry – Chillicothe and Dayton. Pr. Steve Kimpel joins Pr. Merlyn Seitz as the directors of the ministry. The Chillicothe Campus will expand to include advanced course study in Lutheran Theology, history, Old and New Testament, while the Dayton Campus will focus on introductory courses. The mission of the Southern Ohio Synod Lay School of Theology is to provide students with opportunities to reflect on their past and present ministries, while engaging in theological studies with peers, while receiving encouragement and guidance from the faculty who teach the various courses. The goal of the Lay School of Theology is to help students grow in faith and knowledge.”
There are separate registration forms for the following courses:
Early Christian Traditions: the Birth of Christianity is being offered at the Chillicothe Campus at Calvary Lutheran Church, Chillicothe. Instructor--The Rev. Dr. Thomas Ferguson, Academic Dean at Bexley Seabury Seminary Federation
Introduction to the Old Testament is being offered at the Dayton Campus at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Kettering. Instructor Pr. Steve Kimpel, pastor of Faith and St. Mark Lutheran Churches, Dayton, who has done extensive studies in The Hebrew Bible and Ancient Near Eastern History
