Retired Southern Ohio Synod Pastor, Rev. Robert E. Cassell, Dies At Age 84

It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. --Ephesians 4:11-13
Rev. Robert E. Cassell, age 84, of Lumberton, Texas died Friday, January 11, 2008.
He served in the US Army during World War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge in 1944.
Pr. Cassell is a 1947 graduate of Gettysburg College and 1950 Graduate of Gettysburg Seminary in Pennsylvania.He was ordained in 1950 in the West Virginia Synod, ULCA.
He served as pastor at numerous congregations, including Mt. Calvary, Westernport, MD; Zion-Park Hills, Covington, KY; Ebenezer, Indianapolis, IN; and Grace in Elkhart, IN.He retired in 1988 after 38 years of service, when he and his wife, Martha, moved to Ironton, Ohio to become members of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Pr. Cassell is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert F. and Jeanne M. Cassell of Lumberton, TX; sister, Marie Smith of Grafton, WV; and sister-in-law, Katie Kisor of Ironton, OH.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, January 18, 2008 at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home, 518 South 6th Street, Ironton, Ohio 45638.The Rev. Mike Poole will preside.
Visitation for family and friends will be held immediately before the funeral, beginning at 1:30 pm on January 18.
The interment will take place at Woodland Cemetery, Ironton, Ohio.
