"God's work. Our hands." Sunday

“God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America — one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. On Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014, the nearly 10,000 congregations of this church gather to serve communities in ways that share the love of God with all of God’s people.

What is your congregation planning to do?

Consider visiting the "Service" Section of the website for ideas!

And here are 3 things you should be doing...

Plan now, breathe easier later

The ELCA Youth Gathering might seem far away, but we have three things you can do right now that will pay off in time savings later this year.

  • Hold an informational meeting for participants, parents and potential adult leaders. Clarify the minimum age (attended 7th grade in May 2014) and maximum age (attended 11th grade in May 2014) for participation. Parents of 7th graders may be surprised to find their children can go, depending on your congregation's travel policies.
  • Set and communicate your congregation’s paperwork deadline now and send reminders over the summer. Although registration opens on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, Adult Leaders can start entering information into the online registration form on Monday, Sept. 15, 2014.
  • Start networking in your synod! Contact your synod coordinator. Send an email to Diane at dsaministry1@gmail.com then organize neighboring congregations to share transportation and/or prep sessions.

Gathering T-shirt Artist Needed

We will again offer a Southern Ohio Synod Gathering T-shirt. If you have a young person (preferably someone going to the Gathering) who would like to design the t-shirt send their name and email address to Gary gpecuch@southerohiosynod.org

And your congregation really should get someone to the

The 2015 Extravaganza

January 29-February 2, 2015

Intensive Care Courses: January 29-30

Main Event:  January 30-February 2

If your congregation plans to attend the 2015 ELCA Youth Gathering during summer 2015 it would be a good idea to get someone from your congregation to attend the Extravaganza in Detroit next January 29 through February 2, 2015.

If your congregatiion does not plan to attend the 2015 Youth Gathering the Extravaganza is still way worth it. Detroit is the closest in has ever been. Come worship, relax, attend workshops, and glean great ideas from 600+ congregational youth staffers.
