November and December 2014 Issues of The Parish Paper Address Closing a Church and the Consulting Process

The Parish Paper (Ideas and Insights for Active Congregations) is provided to congregations through your mission support donations. It may be printed, posted on your website or shared via email. Please keep copyright information intact when sharing.

The November 2014 issue is titled 'Should We Consider Closing Our Church?' With membership in many congregations declining, this article provides the warning signs, describes the pain of closure and suggests ways to end well. If your congregation is considering closure or wants to know how to weave new life into it's mission and ministry, please call the Southern Ohio Synod office and we'll connect you with an Assistant to the Bishop to work with your congregation.

The December 2014 issue is titled 'How to Make the Most of a Consulting Process.' Consultants are often brought in to provide direction for congregations facing challenges that people inside the congregation are unable to identify or overcome without new ideas or hard truths. Before hiring a consultant, make sure to read this article for helpful insights regarding why to hire a consultant, how to pick a great consultant and what to do once a consultant is hired. The Southern Ohio Synod Bishop's Office offers consulting services in the areas of Leadership Transitions (Pr. Jeff Wick), Mission Planning/Church Growth (Pr. Ed Williams), Youth & Family/Intergenerational Faith Formation (Gary Pecuch), and Communications (Susan Barton-Nonno). Contact the synod office at 614.464.3532 to connect to one of the staff members listed above.
