Description: The Workplace Safety and De-Escalation training is an instructor-led course designed to equip participants with the knowledge, tools, and practical techniques needed to stay safe in a variety of settings beyond the traditional workplace. The course emphasizes proactive safety planning, environmental awareness, and risk assessment strategies and practical de-escalation skills that can be applied when interacting with potentially agitated individuals, supporting safer and more effective community engagement.

Pre-requisite: There is an online training component that must be taken before the instructor led training. After you register, within a week, you will receive the invitation to take the online portion on your own. A reminder, that the online portion must be taken before the classroom portion.

This free training is made possible through funding from the Massachusetts Tobacco Control Program (MTCP)

Priority will be given to in the following order:

  • Local public health department staff members in departments with MHOA Tobacco MOUS.
  • People who have attended an MHOA tobacco training in the last two years.
  • People in departments who have tobacco as one of their FY26 PHE workplan.
  • Then, it will be opened up to all health department staff.
