Bio:
Kent State University was where I first learned about a career in Public Health; I was in my third year of college enrolled in the radiation therapy program when I had a change of heart. I knew that I wanted to help people, but cancer treatment was just not my fit. Once I learned about what Public Health was and what careers were out there, I knew I had found my niche especially with Environmental Health. In the Spring of 2014, I graduated from KSU with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health with a concentration in Occupational and Environmental Health. I became aware of OEHA when I learned about a scholarship opportunity. In Spring 2014, I was able to attend my first AEC due to receiving the undergraduate George Eagle Scholarship. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work for now three nationally accredited health departments. As a Stark County native, I was excited to start my public health career with Stark County Health Department. There I was mentored and exposed to several Environmental Health programs, and where I obtained my RS. I then spent a few years working at Canton City Public Health in the EPA contracted Air Pollution Control program. In the Fall of 2019, I was offered a position as the Director of Environmental Health at the Carroll County General Health District. This opportunity was a large leap, but I am so grateful I took the jump. Our small but mighty health department has overcome many trials, and I am so proud to see where we are today. I am very eager to be serving as your NE District Director this year. With a strong committee of experienced environmental health professionals, I know we will have another wonderful conference this Fall.

Dear Environmental Health Professionals,
NE Agenda 2024 - Updated 9/19/24
The Northeast Planning Committee and I are excited to invite you to our Annual OEHA Northeast District Conference. The conference will once again be held at the Hilton Garden Inn, located at 8971 Wilcox Dr, Twinsburg, Ohio 44087, from Tuesday, October 15th through Wednesday, October 16th. This year’s theme is, “Nothing Derails Public Health: OEHA Keeping us on Track!” The agenda for the conference provides the opportunity to obtain 6 CEUs per day, for a total of 12 CEUs for the conference, pending approval from the Ohio Department of Health. Our planning committee has strived to provide you with a diverse group of speakers, with topics you may have never even heard about before. Plan to hear about the East Palestine Train Derailment, as we are lucky enough to have the Columbiana County Environmental Health Director, Laura Fauss, as our Past District Director, and on our Planning Committee! Between both days there will also be opportunities for obtaining CEUs for your Ohio Department of Agriculture Pesticide Licensure, for Core, and categories 10d and 7 (a total of 3 hours).
We are delighted to have a great line-up of sponsors, with our newest sponsor being Wastewater Solutions. Please take some time during your breaks to speak and network with our exhibitors. You never know, creating these connections may help you in the future! I want to thank them for their generous sponsorship to OEHA.
It is also important to make sure you bring cash to purchase raffle tickets! There will be a variety of items and raffle baskets to try and win, along with our 50/50 drawing. The money raised will be put toward the George Eagle Memorial Scholarship fund. This scholarship is awarded to both an undergraduate and graduate level student at the Spring Annual Education Conference, who express a willingness to pursue or expand their environmental health career in the State of Ohio. Do you know someone who is going to school to become an environmental health professional? Tell them about this great opportunity! Or maybe you are currently obtaining your master’s in public health? You should apply for this scholarship!
Is this your first OEHA conference? We are excited you are joining us and have chosen a career in environmental health. Regardless if you are a new member or life member, to get the most out of this conference, we encourage you to engage and participate in sessions by asking questions and networking with people you have never met before. Sometimes this may cause us to get out of our comfort zone, but you’ll be glad you did!
To finish, I just want to say it has been a wonderful experience being your Northeast Director, and I could not have done it without a dedicated Planning Committee. I want to thank them for all their effort planning this conference. If you would like to join the planning committee, please let one of us know at the conference! Northeast District is also seeking nominations for a 2025 District Director-Elect. To submit a nomination please reach out to me through my contact information below. Last but definitely not least, THANK YOU for all the work you do to protect the environment and the health of the people in the communities you serve!
All The Best,
Courtney Grossman
