Mark Markell, Ph.D., CT

Marc Markell is Professor Emeritus at St. Cloud State University, where he served in the Departments of Education and Multicultural Education. He currently teaches Psychology at Worsham College of Mortuary Science and contributes to the Master’s of Thanatology program at Edgewood College.

With decades of experience in bereavement and end-of-life education, Marc has volunteered extensively with hospice and teaches death education programs for children and adolescents at Creekside United Church of Christ. He also leads the Our Whole Lives curriculum for K–1st and 4th–5th graders.

Marc earned his PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Minnesota and is a certified Professional Development Specialist through the University of Kansas Center for Research on Learning. He is a Certified Thanatologist (Association for Death Education and Counseling) and holds certification in Death and Grief Studies from Colorado State University’s Center for Loss and Life Transition.

A nationally and internationally recognized speaker, Marc has presented widely and published three books on grief, along with numerous book chapters and articles. He also holds professional certifications in funeral service, including End-of-Life Doula, Crematory Operator, Funeral Arranger, and Celebrant.
