Jim Humpal passed away on Aug 31

Hall of Fame

Longtime former Brush Head Baseball Coach Jim Humpal passed away on August 31, 2019 at the age of 82. Humpal was inducted into the OHSBCA Hall of Fame in 1977 and served as OHSBCA President in 1980. He also served as President of the Greater Cleveland Baseball Coaches Association's President in 1974 and 1975. Humpal was Head Coach 28 seasons for the Arcs and won 500 games at Brush High School along with 6 League Championships, 16 Sectional Championships, 5 District Championships, 3 Regional Championships, 2 Final Four Appearances and was 1985 State Runner-Up. In addition, he coached 7 players who would play professionally; 3 of whom would play Major League Baseball: Dan Masteller (Twins), David Tobik (Tigers, Rangers, Mariners) and 1980 American League Cy Young Award Winner Steve Stone (Giants, White Sox, Cubs, Orioles). He was inducted into the Brush High School Athletic Hall of Fame and the High School Field was named in his honor in 2008. Following his retirement from teaching and coaching at Brush High School, Coach Humpal worked at Triple Play Baseball Academy as an Instructor and Coach.
