Jeff Mielcarek - 2011
Toledo Central Catholic
Jeff Mielcarek played high school baseball at Toledo St. Francis de Sales where his coach was OHSBCA Hall of Famer Coach Don Kober. He also coached alongside Coach Kober for three seasons. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Marketing from the University of Toledo in 1985.
Jeff was hired as the varsity baseball coach at Toledo Central Catholic prior to the start of the 1987 season. During his 24 years at Central Catholic, his teams have achieved a record of 363-252 while playing in the Toledo City League while playing an extremely challenging non-league schedule during each season. The 363 wins at Central Catholic rank as the most baseball victories by a coach in school history. His teams advanced to the Regional Championship game twice in 1999 and 2000 and appeared in the District Championship game two other times. His teams have won the Toledo City League Championship two of the past three, seasons including last spring when his son pitched a complete game and was named the Series MVP. He has had 18 players go on to play Division I college baseball, and many others play small college baseball. He has also had two former players selected in the MLB Draft.
Jeff Mielcarek served as President of the OHSBCA in 2006. He joined the Board of Directors in January 2002 as a Northwest District Representative.
In addition to his baseball duties at Central Catholic and OHSBCA, Jeff has served as a Team Ohio coach for the past 13 years, and for the past 4 years he has served as the head coach and coordinator. He was selected to coach in the Mizuno All-Ohio Series in 1995. He has served as the President of the Metro Toledo Coaches Association and was one of three Toledo City League Coaches to establish the Toledo Fall Baseball League 13 years ago. The league started with four teams and just under 100 players and has grown through the years. He also serves as a District representative for ACME Baseball.
Jeff is employed by the Diocese of Toledo as the Director of Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) Athletics. He also officiates high school basketball games where he has worked both boys and girls regional tournament games and a girls state tournament game.
He is proud of what his players have been able to accomplish through the years and grateful for the coaches that he has been fortunate to have alongside of him, including many former players who have returned to help in both the spring and summer seasons.
Jeff and his wife Sally are the proud parents of son Travis (18) who is a freshman baseball player at Siena Heights.
