Marion DeLaney - 1992

Maple Heights High School

Hall of Fame

Marion DeLaney graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1957. He was a 1st team All-Buckeye Conference and 2nd team All-Ohio Linebacker in football. After graduation he attended Muskingum College, where he was a two year letterman in football, and a member of the baseball team. Coach DeLaney interrupted his college career from 1960-1962 to serve in the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. After graduating from Muskingum Clooege in 1964, he started his teaching and coaching career at Maple Heights. He received his Master's Degree in Secondary Administration in 1970 from the University of Akron.

Prior to becoming the Head Baseball Coach, he was a varsity Assistant for two years, and Head Jr. Varsity Coach for five years. He took over the reins of the baseball program in 1973. His Jr. Varsity team posted 79 wins and his Varsity teams have posted over 250 wins. While competing in the stron Greater Cleveland Conference, his teams have won two championships, and five second place finishes. In State Tournament play his teams have been Regional runner-up four times, and Sectional Champion ten times. He has also coached as a Varsity Football Assistant for seventeen years, and Varsity Basketball Assistant for three years.

Marion and his wife Jeanne, who is Manager of Adult Services at the Maple Heights Regional Branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library, have been married 27 years. They have three daughters: Karin, who is a Truant Officer for the Maple Heights Schools,; Kathie, who is a Dental Assistant; and Shari, who is a freshmant at Mount Saint Mary's College in Emmitsbur, MD. All three daughters were three-sport participants in high school, earning 35 varsity letters among them. All were offered athletic scholarships to play in college; Karin in track, who ran in the State Track Meet, Kathie in volleyball, who won All-State honors in basetball and volleyball. Shari was 2nd team All-State basketball player, and she received a full athletic scholarship at Division I Mount Saint Mary's in Maryland.
