Dublin Scioto High School

Phil Callaghan is a 1980 graduate of St. Francis DeSales H.S. in Columbus where he played both football and baseball. He was part of the DeSales baseball team that won the 1979 AA State Championship. After high school graduation, he went on to play baseball at The Ohio State University, graduating in 1984 with a degree in Mathemetics Education. In 1985, Phil was named the head baseball coach at DeSales and hired as a math teacher. After five years on the faculty, he was named Assistant Principal/Athletic Director. In 1995, he returned to teaching when Dublin Scioto H.S. opened and was named their first head baseball coach. Phil earned his Master's degree in Educational Administration from The Ohio State University in 2004. In 2007, he was named an Ohio School Boards Association Ohio Teacher of the Year. During his ten years as head coach at DeSales, his teams had a combined record of 207-74. The Stallions won 9 Sectional, 3 league, 3 District and 1 Regional championships and seven of those teams won more than 20 games. Throughout his 11 year tenure at Dublin Scioto, his teams had a combined 253-66 record. The Irish won 10 Sectional, 6 league, 4 District, 1 regional championships and were the 1998 Div. 1 state runner-ups. Nine of his teams won 20 or more games per season and in 1998 team won 31 games. Phil retired from coaching baseball after 21 years as a head coach in 2006 with a combined record of 460-140 and a .767 winning percentage. He continues to teach and work in the area of intervention at Dublin Scioto High School. Phil has had the privilege of 82 of his former players participate at the college level with 3 playing professionally. Phil and his wife, Mary Beth have been married for 11 years and have a daughter Leah, sons Cole and Will. Mary Beth is also an educator and like all coaches' wives, has been instrumental in the success that Phil has had in coaching.
