Music Director/Organist/Handbell Director

St. Paul Lutheran Church

Part-time (~ 15 hours/week)

St. Paul’s is a growing, medium-sized congregation with attendance of approximately 85 at Sunday morning Eucharist.

A Chancel Choir of adults supports the service most Sundays, September to June. An instrumental group supports worship services on festivals and other occasions. A four-octave set of handbells equips a bell choir, which is currently inactive.

We are flexible in that we are seeking either a Director of Music or candidates for the individual positions of Organist/Accompanist and Chancel Choir Director.

The sanctuary’s fine acoustic has often been complimented. The pipe organ was rebuilt in 1992 with refurbishing in 2020. A comprehensive description of the organ is available.

Salary is commensurate with experience and duties performed. Experience in liturgical services and knowledge of choral techniques is mandatory; sensitivity to Lutheran musical traditions is highly desirable. Further details are available in the Music Director Job Description and Standard Operating Procedures documents, which can be downloaded here (https://www.stpaulreading.org/job-posting-for-music-director/).

Please contact Cindy Mayhugh, Search Committee Chair, with questions or to submit application documents via email at mail@stpaulreading.org. Apply by submitting a cover letter and resume.

Successful candidates will be asked to submit references, interview with the Committee, and play or conduct, as appropriate, for the Search Committee.

(Detailed description of the pipe organ is also available on our website.)
