Evening and Morning: Celebrating 410 Years of the Hymnody of Paul Gerhardt (1607-1676)

Dr. Tim Guenther and the Choir of Gethsemane Lutheran Church will present “Evening and Morning: Celebrating 410 Years of the Hymnody of Paul Gerhardt (1607-1676).” The program features the hymns of Paul Gerhardt, who lived in Germany during the religious wars of the 17th Century (The 30 Years’ War). Trained to become a Lutheran pastor at Wittenberg a century after Martin Luther, he is one of the most important authors of hymns since Martin Luther. He wrote a total of 123 hymns, 9 of which are included in Evangelical Lutheran Worship. “O Lord, How Shall I Meet You,” “All My Heart Again Rejoices,” “O Sacred Head, Now Wounded,” “Awake, My Heart, with Gladness,” and “Evening and Morning” are all among the hymns authored by this important Lutheran hymn writer.

Please join us on October 8 at 4 pm, as we celebrate the legacy of this important Lutheran pastor and hymn author. Bring your singing voice, and bring a friend or two!

A free will offering will be collected for Faith Lutheran Church in Dickinson, TX that was flooded by Hurricane Harvey.
