Nominate a young person today for the ELCA Horizon Apprentice Program--Extended deadline May 1!

The Horizon Apprenticeship Program provides opportunities during the summer months for high school and college students of color or whose primary language is that other than English who are between the ages of 16 and 20 to explore their vocations as they reflect on God’s presence and on the church community. The program is a nearly two month commitment (taking place from June 10 – August 4, 2018), during which the student’s home congregational pastor will mentor the student at least 20 hours a week in the student’s home congregation and commits to including them in worship, bible study, community involvement and other congregational learning experiences. The student must also spearhead a project of their own. Each student participant will receive a stipend of $1,500 for the summer.

Below is a nomination form and student work plan. Nomination forms need to be completed by the nominating pastor (in partnership with the student) and received no later than Tuesday, May 1 for consideration. Depending on the number of applicants this year, we may limit the number of participants to two per congregation. Please feel free to pass this form on to the congregations in your network. Pastors and nominees will be notified by Friday, May 4 of the decision regarding their application.
