'Getting to Know Our Neighbors' latest topic for Parish Paper

One characteristic of vital congregations is that they are actively engaged in relationship with—and always listening to—their neighbors. Vital congregations don’t presume to know what their neighbors need or what ministries would be most helpful. They ask them. And there is no more effective way to hear their neighbors than one-to-one interviews. This edition of the Parish Paper covers this topic in depth, and our DEM, Pastor Katie Kerrigan, particularly recommends the “unstructured interview” for a congregation’s first effort in signaling their genuine interest in getting to know their neighbors, and the “semi-structured interview” as part of the discerning of new ministry with neighbors.
