January is Anti-Human Trafficking Month!

For the last few years you have been seeing messages, opportunities and announcements from a small group of people who called ourselves the SOS WELCA Anti-Human Trafficking Committee.  Well this is another message from us, but we have a new name:

enLIGHTen -- "Shining a light on human trafficking"

Our ministry remains the same, we just think the new name tells people more plainly what we are about and defines what we are trying to do.

Our mission statement is: We are bold women of faith who educate others on what human trafficking is and how to stop it. So since the mission is the same -- we will be putting articles in this e-bulletin each week in January to tell you something that we have seen, we are doing, or we need help to reach out to more people, sharing the message that our children are being trafficked and that we ought to do something about it.

My involvement stemmed from an initial contact with Sister Sally who has made at least 100 presentations to groups, large and small.  She came to my congregation's Adult Sunday School class four years ago and shared some facts and scriptures that brought this scourge to light for me.  I had a teenage daughter at the time (She's now 22.) but I thought what if she didn't have a strong, supportive family? She could be involved in this horrible situation -- and that the children (boys are trafficked too.) who ARE in this situation are someone's children -- they are God's children.  It made me realize that I had to do something.

To quote William Wilberforce:  You may choose to look  the other way, but you can never say again that you did not know.
