Situation Update – Memorial Day 2019 Tornadoes To date, LSS has assisted 37 households (138 people), has coordinated 45 volunteers who have contributed nearly 900 hours of service (a value of over $22,000), and continues to play a lead role in supporting the development and operation of the Miami Valley Long Term Recovery Group (MVLTRG). The MVLTRG serves as the centralized point of recovery activities in response to the Memorial Day tornado outbreak. The group is comprised of over 20 not-for-profit and faith-based organizations in collaboration with local, state, and federal government partners. If your church or community group is interested in attending a meeting of the MVLTRG, the next meeting is scheduled for 9 am on October 7th at Miami Valley Community Action Partnership (719 S. Main Street, Dayton).

The intake system for disaster case management in the Miami Valley is now up and running and receiving calls from tornado and storm survivors. As of September 11, 2019, seventy-four individual calls have been received by the 2-1-1 operation center and referred to the Disaster Case Management Committee for assignment to a case manager. In addition to assisting in the establishment of this intake system, LSS also led a Disaster Case Management overview workshop in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton for twenty-two participants representing ten not-for-profit and faith-based partner organizations. Anyone in the Miami Valley that needs tornado recovery assistance should dial 2-1-1 or (937) 225-3000.

The Volunteer Management committee will hold a regional Community Cleanup Day this Saturday, September 14, 2019 from 9am to 3pm.
