Lord Have Mercy, Christ Have Mercy, Lord Have Mercy--A prayer from Bishop Dillahunt

Lord Have Mercy, Christ Have Mercy, Lord Have Mercy,

Violence, racism, divisions, death, selfishness, and sin are swirling around us.  As we hit 100,000 deaths in this country from COVID-19, we are faced with unnecessary violence and racism in Minneapolis, Savannah, NYC and within our own state and synod.  We see people refusing to care for or about another-- only themselves--and those who continue to ask the question ‘who is our neighbor?’  We pray, Lord have Mercy, Christ have Mercy, Lord have mercy!

We are called, through the waters of Baptism, as the voices of those who are not heard, and people of action who are the bringers of the Gospel, Christ’s light, to the corners of our communities.  Be Light!

We pray together: “Look with mercy, gracious God, upon people everywhere who live with injustice, terror, disease, and death as their constant companions.  Rouse us from our complacency and help us to eliminate cruelty wherever it is found.  Strengthen those who seek equality for all.  Grant that everyone may enjoy a fair portion of the abundance of the earth; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen”.  (ELW Prayer pg.79)
