Community partnerships make food truck meal giveaway possible in Whitehall

T To S

What does a church, a food truck, and a brewery all have in common?

Here in Whitehall, the answer to that question is that they all work together to feed & care for our community.

It was back on February 28, 2020 that Two Tones Brewing released “Taco Pump” a beer that was created as a way to fund (read that 'pump money into') our Taco Tuesday program that fed the community on the fourth Tuesday of each month. February 28 was a Friday night and little did we know then, that by the fourth Tuesday of March the world would be a very different place.

Sadly, with social distancing, and the pandemic at hand, we have been unable to offer Taco Tuesday to the community since February. Miraculously, that has recently changed. Using the funds received from the Taco Pump Project, we partnered with Whitehall Food Truck, and Faith neighbor, Uncle Will’s Wagon to hand out free meals on June 28th from 4:00PM until 6:00PM. During that time we handed out meals to every single person who walked by, some took them for themselves, others took meals to their shut-in family members and loved ones.  In total we handed out 88 meals.

This was a beautiful community effort. The funds coming from one community partner, the food & meal prep coming from another. We at Faith were the catalyst & location. As the realities of what it means to be church constantly change around us, certain things remain the same. Hunger, injustice, and need are daily issues for many.  Our task as Christians is to figure out new ways to support our community and care for those in need amid the changing world.
