Earthkeeping Summit, Oct 12-13, in Columbus-Don't Miss Out!

An invitation to Ohio’s faith community to gather on October 12 & 13, 2014 to empower a religious response to climate change through:

  • sharing Earthkeeping congregational and advocacy success stories;
  • learning from one another about the joys and challenges of our Earthkeeping efforts;
  • affirming the moral and ethical foundations of our response to climate change; and
  • offering resources to equip congregations to fulfill their responsibility for the stewardship of creation

We are excited to feature exceptional speakers for the Summit, including:

Dr. Katharine Hayhoe (Sunday, October 12, 7:00pm)

Dr. Katharine Hayhoe is an Associate Professor of Public Administration and Director of the Climate Science Center at Texas Tech. She was recently named to TIME’s 2014 list of the 100 most influential people in the world and appeared in the climate change documentary Years of Living Dangerously. She co-authored a book with her husband, an evangelical pastor, Climate for Change: Global Warming Facts for Faith-based Decisions. Dr. Hayhoe particularly focuses her work on how the poor and the vulnerable are affected by climate disruption.

Dr. David Orr and The Rev. Daniel Orr–Heart, Soul, and Mind: The Inter-generational Challenge of a Changing Climate (October 13, 9:00am)

Dr. David Orr is the Paul Sears Distinguished Professor of Environmental Studies and Politics at Oberlin College. He is a well-known environmentalist, climate science speaker, and author, and is active in many areas of environmental studies, including environmental education and environmental design. Dr. Orr is the recipient of six honorary degrees and other awards including The Millennium Leadership Award from Global Green, the Bioneers Award, the National Wildlife Federation Leadership Award, and the Lyndhurst Prize acknowledging “persons of exceptional moral character, vision, and energy.

The Rev. Daniel Orr serves as Episcopal Priest in St. Paul’s, Fremont Ohio. He and his wife have a daughter and son. Daniel believes that health is a major avenue to connect people with creation. He and an ecumenical coalition have begun a health initiative in Fremont. Cyclist, gardener, and centering prayer leader, Daniel is also President of the Fremont Kiwanis Club and a graduate of Oberlin College and Yale Divinity School.

  • Congregational Panel Presentation: A diverse group of congregations showcasing examples of energy efficiency, renewable energy, earth care education and ritual, and faith-based environmental leadership.
  • Regional Break-out groups to discuss your successes, challenges, and hopes.
