OOA Meets With PAs Concerning Draft Legislation
Executive Director Jon F. Wills met with representatives from the Ohio Association of Physician Assistants (OAPA), April 21, to discuss proposed legislation to revise PA practice inOhio. Proposed legislation, which will be introduced shortly, would allow PAs to pronounce death, give PAs immunity when providing emergency services, allow PAs to provide medical services outside their supervisory plan in time of disaster, eliminate the prescriptive authority provisional period for PAs moving in from out-of-state (providing they have prescriptive authority in another jurisdiction), specify Medicaid reimbursement for PAs at 100 percent, clarifying that PAs can give physical therapy and occupational therapy orders and giving PAs Schedule II prescriptive authority. OOA officers and trustees will discuss the legislation at its Board meeting next week and provide additional feedback to the OAPA.
