OOA Opposes APN Prescribing Bill

HB 206, which gives authority to advance practice nurses (APNs) to prescribe Schedule II controlled substances, was passed by the Ohio House of Representatives, May 19, by a 85-13 vote.  The OOA continues to oppose the bill.  In correspondence sent to all members of the Ohio House, May 10, Executive Director Jon F. Wills noted that schedule II drugs have the highest potential for diversion, criminal activity, overdose, injury and death.  He said it makes no sense to add an additional 4,000 schedule II prescribers in the state, particularly at this time when the Prescription Drug Abuse Task Force is working to prevent patients from doctor shopping and diverting prescription drugs for recreational or street use.
