HB 567 Introduced to Create Stroke Protocols
Legislation that provides for recognition of hospital primary stroke centers and establishes protocols for emergency triage, treatment, and transport of stroke patients was introduced last week. After a bit of a mix-up, HB 564 was re-introduced as HB 567 to include oversights pointed out by the OOA.
The new bill now includes stroke centers accredited by the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP)program on the same basis as those accredited by the Joint Commission. The Ohio Stroke Council will continue to have a physician designed by the Ohio Osteopathic Association as a representative on the Council. Grandview Hospital in Dayton has HFAP stroke accreditation and Albert M. Salomon, DO, of Columbus, currently serves on the Ohio Stroke Prevention and Education Council.
The OOA has not taken action a position on the bill and action in this session is unlikely. For more information about HB 564, click here: http://www.legislature.state.oh.us/bills.cfm?ID=128_HB_567
