Marketing Communications Manager

Position Summary:

AmericanHort seeks a Marketing Communications Manager responsible for developing, managing, and executing AmericanHort’s marketing and communication strategies.

This position will be responsible for leading day-to-day marketing and communication operations for the organization. This person will be responsible for helping the association reach its membership goals and organizational objectives. This includes the development and execution of communications strategies, goals, and messaging consistent with the AmericanHort mission, vision, and brand.

The ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate initiative, professionalism, organization, and attention to detail and excellent time management skills with the ability to multitask. The Marketing Communications Manager must be excellent at verbal and written communication and demonstrate the ability to develop and implement mass communications campaigns and activities. He or she must be a self-starter who is skilled at working independently, as well as part of a team.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Work closely with members of AmericanHort’s advocacy, education, events, and marketing/communications teams to manage and implement short- and long-term marketing and communication strategies and to increase AmericanHort’s awareness to drive membership and engagement in AmericanHort programs and services
  • Manage and approve the creation, design, and production of communications assets and materials (i.e.: position papers, press releases, op-eds, videos, infographics, website content, social media content, trade show displays, and other marketing materials)
  • Review, approve, and contribute content to AmericanHort communication vehicles, such as Impact Washington, Capitol Wire, Connect (print), and Connect digital e-news, program promotional emails, etc.
  • Ensure consistency in AmericanHort brand voice, recognition, and messaging across all communications channels
  • Track communication data metrics and works with the marketing and communications team to review analytics across various marketing channels, particularly email marketing and website metrics, and adapts marketing strategy as needed to increase effectiveness and achieve goals.
  • Build and manage relationships with members of the industry media and AmericanHort membership
  • Monitor news and help to identify opportunities for AmericanHort to prepare and distribute statements, organize press calls, and/or hold media events
  • Work with team to optimize marketing and communications processes, including use of email marketing and automation tools
  • Assist in the development and management of the social media strategy to deliver key messages and build social audiences on social media platforms like twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, etc.
  • Manage outreach to AmericanHort membership encouraging their engagement with AmericanHort programs and services
  • Assist with Cultivate conference planning, marketing, and communications

Goals Include:

  • Brainstorm, implement, and enforce communication strategies based on data-insights, vision, goals to advance AmericanHort’s strategic goals objectives.
  • Increase brand awareness, audience enthusiasm, membership, and engagement through media opportunities and exposure specific to our advocacy, education, and event efforts.
  • Grow AmericanHort’s impact via successful marketing and communications execution.

Additional Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Possess strong time management skills with a proven ability to meet multiple deadlines and balance numerous projects in a fast paced and changing environment
  • Exemplary writing, editing, and copy-editing skills. Must be proficient in AP style
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field
  • 8-10 years of relevant experience is desired
  • Highly computer literate, including experience with Microsoft Office, Share Point, Zoom and Teams
  • Experience managing outside partners such as consultants or agency relationships is a plus
  • Candidates must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the USA. No Visa sponsorship is offered for this position
  • Horticulture and/or agriculture experience is a plus
  • Experience working for a trade association is a plus

Additional Information:

This is a full-time position. The position will work closely with the marketing and communications, advocacy, and events departments virtually or in-person. The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. AmericanHort offers a competitive benefits package and a flexible work environment. Some travel is expected.
