Ohio BWC Makes Several Major Announcements

MCO open enrollment is next month, BWC system maintenance and more

Today, the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation announced that employers' opportunity to choose the managed care organization (MCO) to manage the medical portion of their workers' compensation claims is just around the corner. The BWC's 2021 MCO open enrollment begins at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, May 3; it concludes at 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 28.

To help them select an MCO that meets the needs of your business and workers, updated versions of the bureau's MCO Selection Guide and MCO Report Card will be available soon at www.bwc.ohio.gov. The guide walks employers through the selection process, while the report card provides up-to-date MCO performance information. If employers are satisfied with their MCO, they don't need to do anything.

Please note: MCOs cannot market to employers before May 3. However, employers may contact any MCO prior to the open enrollment period to gather information. MCOs may respond to requests initiated by employers outside of the open enrollment period.

For additional information or assistance, visit www.bwc.ohio.gov or call (800) 644-6292.

Due to scheduled maintenance, all the BWC's computer services throughout the state, including phones, will be unavailable on Saturday, April 24.

This means all these systems will be unavailable that day.

  • Website.

  •  All application systems on BWC’s network.

On this day, callers to all the BWC phone lines will receive a busy signal. Visitors to its website will see only one web page that explains the outage.

All functionality will be restored by Monday morning, April 26.
