Chief Executive Officer

Akron Bar Association | Akron, Ohio

The Akron Bar Association is seeking its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with an anticipated start date of Sept. 2, 2025. In this role, the new CEO will have the unique opportunity to continue the Akron Bar’s excellence and proud history of 150 years of service to attorneys and the public in the greater Summit County, Ohio community.

Since its 1875 founding, the Akron Bar Association has utilized the principles of education, advocacy and community service to benefit the legal community in Summit County. The Akron Bar Association strives to empower its members to reflect the highest professional standards, enabling them to earn the community’s utmost respect so our legal system will continue to be recognized as fair, accessible and just.

The CEO is responsible to the board of directors of the Akron Bar Association (association) and the board of governors for the Akron Bar Foundation (foundation) for their effective management and operation. The CEO leads in the formulation of the association’s and foundation’s respective missions, goals, objectives and related policies. Within such framework, the CEO plans, organizes, coordinates and directs the activities of both the association and foundation and their staff members. The CEO promotes effective internal and external relationships with all constituents. The CEO also encourages a climate which attracts, retains and motivates high-quality staff.

Required Skills

The CEO will be an experienced executive who has successfully led organizations at a high level and who meets the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (e.g., business administration, non-profit management or related concentration)
  • A minimum of five (5) years of successful senior leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated exceptional organizational, prioritization and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to people throughout all levels.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and budgeting skills with broad business experience.
  • Demonstrated integrity, high ethical standards and objectivity.
  • Demonstrated effective decision-making ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently maintain a professional image and demeanor.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work arrangements

Primarily in-office with limited remote work, subject to flexibility and with approval by the boards; occasional travel required.
