Republican Lawmakers Introduce Bill to Alter Higher Education in Ohio

It would ban DE&I courses, trainings at Ohio's public colleges and universities

Ohio Republican lawmakers introduced Senate Bill 1, what they've named "the Advance Ohio Higher Education Act," Monday at the Ohio Statehouse. They say it will ensure academic excellence on Ohio's college campuses.

"To be the best, we must be a meritocracy," said State Senator Kristina Roegner (R- Hudson). "We want Ohio students to be educated, not indoctrinated."

Bill sponsor, State Senator Jerry Cirino (R- Kirtland), says the legislation is the first bill introduced in the Senate because higher education is a top priority this session. A nearly identical bill sponsored by Cirino passed the Senate in the last General Assembly; however, it never made it to the House floor for a vote. So, Cirino is trying again in the new Legislature.
