This question often startles executives when I pose it at industry events. The blank stares or hesitant responses tell me everything. Despite the profound shift toward customer-centricity in recent years, communications is still the missing puzzle piece in many customer experience strategies.
Many organizations still equate corporate communications with public relations (PR). They see it as an external-facing function focused solely on media relations and press releases. While PR is undeniably an important part of the communications wheelhouse, analyst relations, employee communications, social media and public affairs are key components to optimizing communication initiatives.
