Shores & Islands Ohio Asks You to Help It Defend Local Businesses & CVBs

Today, representatives from Shores & Islands Ohio reached out to members of Ohio's nonprofit community, including the Ohio Society of Association Professionals (OSAP). 

The CVB is asking for your support as fellow members of Ohio's association and nonprofit community. The CVB and area businesses are facing a serious challenge that could impact its entire region.

A proposal from Erie County government officials aims to change Ohio law in a way that would significantly redirect lodging tax revenue—funding that has, for decades, supported organizations' efforts to promote the region and grow the region's vibrant tourism economy.

If passed, the amendment would allow up to two-thirds of lodging tax collections to be diverted away from convention and visitor's bureaus. This change would not only affect Shores & Islands Ohio; it would also impact 10 other counties across the state.

The consequences are far-reaching. One of the most immediate losses would be CVBs' abilities to fund grants that support conferences and events—key drivers of local business and community growth.
