Where Association CEOs Should Limit AI Usage
As associations do more with AI, CEOs must determine where experts fit in
Teaching builds trust.
That's one of the main lessons I took from reporting on AI trends for the latest batch of Associations Now Deep Dive articles. Distrust of AI is understandable—there are plenty of outsize claims that the technology will decimate industries, shut off our brains and doom us all. But the associations that use it recognize its limitations, while doing more to ensure that their people are comfortable with it.
For instance, I spoke with Bruce Moe, executive director of the Missouri State Teachers Association, who last year offered bonuses to staff who completed training around AI. A majority of the staff did that training, and one of Moe's motivations for the program was to not just improve the staff's knowledge but the members' knowledge. As he told me, he wanted to "get my staff involved in using the technology so that we could begin to leverage it within the association to benefit our members."
